Leftists Threaten to Release Private Information of Students Joining Conservative Campus Groups

Leftist students are discouraging freshmen students in the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) from joining conservative campus groups by threatening that they will release their private information.

A recent message on a Twitter account maintained by Leftist students said freshmen students will be doxed if they are found joining two specific conservative groups—the Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) and Turning Point USA (TPUSA).

“Hey #UT23! Do you wanna be famous? If you join YCT or Turning Point USA, you just might be. Your name and more could end up on an article like one of these ... So be sure to make smart choices at #UTOrientation,” wrote Bevo MCCCXII, a leftist group on Twitter.

Doxing means publishing private information on the internet about specific individuals with malicious intent.

The tweet included links from a blog called “Austin Autonomedia” with names, email addresses, and phone numbers of some members of Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT), and Turning Point USA (TPUSA).

“Students should never be targeted or face harassment for their affiliations, political beliefs or any other reason,” the University of Texas, Austin spokesperson Shilpa Bakre said in an interview with Breitbart.

YCT is a conservative youth organization that has been fighting for conservative values for more than a quarter century.

“YCT and its members participate in the entire spectrum of Texas politics, attempting to shape the policies of the state of Texas through a number of means including educating students and the public, advocating conservative fiscal and social policies, campus activism, campaigning for political candidates, and rating the Texas legislature,” according to its website.

Turning Point USA (TPUSA) is a non-profit present in over 1,000 school campuses. “The organization’s mission is to identify, educate, train, and organize students to promote the principles of fiscal responsibility, free markets, and limited government,” states the website.

Meanwhile, the Austin Autonomedia blog describes its mission and strategy as “support[ing] a network of front line encampments (wolf pack) villages along the so-called Mexican-American border.”

“These villages will be active in providing aid to our asylum seeking relatives, protecting indigenous sacred sites, resisting construction of the LNG (fracked gas) terminal, accompanying pipelines, and stopping the Border wall,” said Austin Autonomedia.

The blog links on the anarchist group’s Twitter message explain its activities. “Over the past months, we’ve gathered lots of data connecting various parties within the YCT and telling us more about their activities,” said one of the blog posts, published last year.

“So far, we have 4 articles published on this site about the YCT. As we approach one week after their now infamous pro-Kavanaugh demonstration on West Mall, we’re putting out this compilation of all of the information on all of the YCT members we currently know of,” it said.

In another blog post, the group said: “Two weeks ago, the new chapter of Turning Point USA at UT hosted their first meeting. It was interrupted for a while by a fire alarm, forcing the meeting to move outside–where it was easy to see and overhear their conversation.

“We’ve gathered intelligence about what exactly happened at this meeting, who is involved in TPUSA, and what TPUSA’s emergence on campus means. We encourage you to share this article with your professors, TAs, classmates, and other networks. This is an extremely relevant issue for anybody that is progressive or left-leaning, who could be at risk of being targeted by this group,” it said.

Bakre told Breitbart News that the anonymous group behind the tweet and the doxing is not registered with the school.

“The anonymous group behind this doxing is not affiliated with the university, is not a registered student group and should not present itself in that way,” she said.

“As they did last fall, University Police are continuing to work to ensure the safety of any targeted students and monitor for any potential criminal acts,” added Bakre.
