LOS ANGELES—A man who allegedly attacked a woman as she walked with her month-old daughter in a stroller in the Brentwood area was arrested July 18.

The crime occurred about 4:40 p.m. Tuesday on Gretna Green Way near Mayfield Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The suspect approached the victim from behind and grabbed her, police said in a statement.

“The victim turned around and struck the suspect in the face, who then struck the victim in the face multiple times, causing her to fall to the ground and sustain serious injuries,” police said.

“The suspect then fled on foot towards Montana Avenue. Detectives from West Los Angeles division identified the suspect as 26-year-old Los Angeles resident, Abraham Shily,” police said.

On Thursday, Mr. Shily was arrested and booked on suspicion of felony battery, police said. Mr. Shily was being held on $50,000 bail, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Carmina Lu told KTLA5 that she was attacked shortly after she said goodbye to a friend and her young daughter, with whom she had been conversing.

“It was really awful,” Ms. Lu told KTLA5. “I just would never expect anything like this to happen, especially one month after giving birth to a beautiful baby.”

Ms. Lu, said she was punched in the face and left with a split lip, cuts under her eyes and suffered a scalp injury that required staples. Ms. Lu’s baby was not injured in the attack.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call Detective Yagubyan at 213-399-0135, or 877-LAPD-247. Tipsters may also call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS, or use the website www.lacrimestoppers.org.
