White House adviser Kellyanne Conway criticized House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for making “awful, incendiary” remarks about the president when he was away on a state visit to Europe last week.
“I don’t want to see him impeached. I want to see him in prison,” Pelosi reportedly said during that meeting.
Conway pointed out that Pelosi, who was in Normandy for a D-Day ceremony at the time, had the “audacity” to claim she would not criticize Trump outside the country even though she had blasted him a few days prior when Trump was in the UK for a state visit.
“[She] is a complete disgrace and has the audacity at Normandy, sitting steps away from us, saying ‘oh, I don’t talk about the president when I’m in a foreign country. That’s my principle,’ but she had talked about the president when he was in a foreign country on a state visit,” Conway said during the interview.
“She doesn’t have control of her temper when it comes to the president and she doesn’t have control over her caucus,” she added.
She said Pelosi is facing “enormous pressure” from far-left members of the Democratic party who are pushing the party’s leadership to initiate impeachment proceedings. Conway said the Democrats are trying to get a “do-over” on special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia report instead of focusing on working with the president to address important issues for the country.
“The do-nothing Congress wants a do-over on the Mueller report,” Conway said.
Mueller’s report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential elections, after a 22-month-long investigation, failed to find evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Attorney General William Barr also determined there was not sufficient evidence presented for an obstruction of justice charge.
Conway warned that if they continue on this path and go “too-left,” they could possibly lose 2020.
“She was only a two-term speaker last time. ... If they go too far left, if they don’t do anything at all, she may be a one or two-term speaker again,” Conway said.
Trump Responds to Pelosi’s Remarks
Trump responded to reports about Pelosi’s alleged remarks while in France during a Fox News interview, where he called the House speaker “a disgrace.”“I actually don’t think she’s a talented person,” the president said. “I’ve tried to be nice to her because I would have liked to have gotten some deals done. She’s incapable of doing deals. She’s a nasty, vindictive, horrible person.”
“Nancy Pelosi’s a disaster, OK? She’s a disaster, and let her do what she wants, you know what? I think they’re in big trouble because when you look at the kind of crimes that were committed, and I don’t need any more evidence, and I guess from what I’m hearing there’s a lot of evidence coming in,” Trump added, referring to how Mueller’s investigation relied heavily on an unverified dossier compiled by an ex-British spy that was paid for by Trump’s 2016 opponent Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee.
