Karen Bass Endorsed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren and LA Labor Union

Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.) received two new endorsements this week in her bid to become Los Angeles’s new mayor. She will go head-to-head with real estate businessman Rick Caruso in the November General Election.

Late Monday evening, the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor—the largest labor union in LA—endorsed Bass. The union has more than 800,000 members.

Bass already has heavy support from labor unions nationwide, including the American Federation of Teachers, National Union of Healthcare Workers, United Teachers Los Angeles, California Nurses Association, among others.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) endorsed Bass on Tuesday.

“Karen Bass has fought her entire life for social and economic justice for the people of Los Angeles,” Warren said in a statement. “Karen Bass has always fought for reproductive freedom, always fought for good-paying jobs for working families, and always fought to protect our planet. We have to move Los Angeles forward, and we’ve already seen what kind of damage an out-of-touch billionaire can do.” Bass, in response, said she’s “honored to have the support” of the Democratic senator.

“All of us who work with her are in awe of her compassion, commitment and knowledge,” Bass said in a statement.

Bass and Caruso advanced to the top in LA’s mayoral race last month, with early primary results showing Caruso in the lead. However, official clerk results showed Bass leading with 43 percent over Caruso’s 36 percent July 1.

Caruso has garnered support from several large names with endorsements from Snoop Dogg, Katy Perry, and Elon Musk.

Roughly 30 percent of voters participated in the primaries. Angelenos will vote again Nov. 8 to replace termed-out Mayor Eric Garcetti.
