Kanye West Distances Himself From ‘Blexit’ Movement

Singer Kanye West said that he is not involved in the new “Blexit” movement after its founder Candace Owens cited his involvement by name.

Owens announced the Blexit movement to a cheering crowd in Washington on Oct. 27, complete with a clothing line that she said was designed by West.

“Blexit is a renaissance and I’m blessed to say that this logo, these colors, were created by my dear friend and fellow superhero—Kanye West,” Owens said while holding up a Blexit cap.

“I cannot tell you how badly that he wished to be here. But he’s here in spirit.”

‘Nothing to do with it’

But West said on Oct. 30 that he actually didn’t design the clothing.

I introduced Candace to the person who made the logo and they didn’t want their name on it so she used mine. I never wanted any association with Blexit. I have nothing to do with it,” he said on Twitter.

West added that he believes he was used and wants to distance himself from politics.

“My eyes are now wide open and now realize I’ve been used to spread messages I don’t believe in. I am distancing myself from politics and completely focusing on being creative!!!” he said.

Owens apologized to West in a blog post published on Oct. 31 after claiming she never said that the singer designed the clothing for Blexit.

“Kanye was completely right to feel used in that regard and as I have done personally, I would like to publicly apologize to him for any undue stress or pain the effort to correct that rumor has caused him, his business relationships, or his family. He simply never designed them,” she wrote.

West and Trump

West’s pronouncement comes after months of openly supporting President Donald Trump, including wearing Trump’s signature “Make America Great Again” hat while appearing on “Saturday Night Live.”

West also met with Trump and NFL legend Jim Brown in the White House, where they discussed manufacturing reform in the Chicago area and prison reform, among other things.

Before the meeting West delivered a 10-minute monologue where he touched on a number of subjects, including his support for Trump and his answers for people who criticized him for supporting the president.

While many tried to link his fresh comments to Trump, it wasn’t clear whether they were aimed at all at the president or solely at Owens, who has not commented since West spoke out.
