Kim Young-rok, the governor of Jeollanamdo Province, South Korea, promoted traditional Korean food in New York.
Mr. Kim joined The Taste of Jeollanamdo, an event at 5th Avenue in Manhattan, on Jan. 12 along with Korean Cultural Center New York director Michael Cheonsoo Kim, Haenam County Mayor Myeong Hyeon-gwan, and Yeongam County Mayor Woo Seung-hee.
Haenam and Yeongam are two counties in Jeollanamdo Province of South Korea.
Karen Page, the author of Flavor Bible, and Michael-Ann Rowe, an Emmy Award-winning food and travel specialist, also joined the event.
The event also highlighted the launch of jnmall.us, an online shopping mall that features the foods and culture of Jeollanamdo Province.
Jeollanamdo is the southmost province in Korean mainland with five cities, seventeen counties, and around two million people. It has an impressive 3,790 miles (6,100 kilometer) of coastline. The coastal province is known for impeccable seafood, fresh agricultural produce, and untouched natural beauty.
Jeollanamdo is not only South Korea’s warehouse of grain and culture, but also “a beautiful area with perfect combination of nature with island, sea, grain field, mountains, and rivers,” Mr. Kim said.
Mr. Kim stopped by the New York City after leading a delegate of 11 wind farms to the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas. This year’s CES was held between Jan. 7 and Jan. 10 in the entertainment capital of the world.
Jeollanamdo has made notable progress in energy transition with many energy companies. The government has put much effort in developing more offshore wind power and solar panel projects.
