A Tennessee hunter said she had a “once-in-a-lifetime experience” when she spotted a 12-point albino buck.
Amy Henderson Hall posted photos and a video of the rare specimen on Facebook, saying the buck “walked right underneath me and hung out with me for 30 minutes.”
“I teared up and was totally amazed,” she wrote.
“It was a very eerie, ghostly feeling,” she told Fox, adding it was the first time she spotted an albino deer. “It took my breath away.”
Hall, who hunts deer for meat for her family, told Fox that she wanted to share the photos to remind people that hunting albino deer is illegal in Tennessee. “It enjoyed the space, nothing ever bothered it,” she said. “This experience was amazing; it was like seeing a ghost.”
“Albino deer are illegal to harvest in Tennessee and are rare,” said the agency in a Facebook post. It also included a statement from Hall: “He was marvelous. He hung out with me for about 30 minutes. He couldn’t hear. Nothing spooked him at all. Getting so close to an albino was a once in a lifetime thing. It made me tear up a bit. Just special.”
“The white deer are entirely unique and beautiful. Most people describe them as striking, mesmerizing, and even magical. Whether you subscribe to the myths and superstitions of white deer or not, there’s no doubt they are beautiful and special to see. There is a reason people are so awed in their presence and so devastated when one is killed,” says the website.
