A 38-year-old reportedly homeless man was arrested May 5 in Culver City after police say he stabbed a woman numerous times in a shopping center parking lot.
The suspect reportedly did not know the victim, according to Culver City police.
The attack appeared to be “unprovoked and random,” police spokeswoman Jennifer Atenza told The Epoch Times.
Police responded to a report of a fight in the Westfield Culver City parking lot at the 6100 block of Slauson Avenue, about 11 miles west of Los Angeles, at about 2:45 p.m. Sunday.
Officers found a Hispanic woman who had been stabbed numerous times and was bleeding heavily, the department reported. She was taken to a hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.
The suspect fled on foot. He was found hiding in bushes in Cougar Park near Hannum Avenue and Slauson Avenue, and was taken into custody without incident, according to police. The knife used in the attack was recovered at the scene.
The suspect was booked into the city jail and charged with attempted murder, police said.
Police are asking for the public’s help in the investigation. A few Tesla vehicles, which are equipped with video monitoring, were in the area during the attack. Police are hopeful they can find the owners of those vehicles to help them get more information, according to Ms. Atenza.

This was the second attack in Los Angeles County allegedly committed by a homeless person Sunday.
A female L.A. Dash bus driver was attacked at 1 p.m. by a homeless woman in South Los Angeles, according to news reports. The Dash bus system serves the city’s downtown core.
The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the report of an attack at the intersection of Central Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard, a police spokesman confirmed.
“The victim was identified as the driver on a Dash bus, reportedly being assaulted by a female suspect who [was] possibly under the influence,” Officer Kevin Terzes told The Epoch Times.
A video shared by KTLA 5 shows the suspect throwing punches and shoving the female driver, who shoved back as she attempted to defend herself. The bus driver told the suspect to get off the bus, allegedly because the woman could not pay for a bus ticket, according to the news station.
The suspect was taken into custody, but police have not released her name..
The driver was treated at the scene for her injuries before being released, Mr. Terzes said.
