More and more stars are reporting losing their homes, as Los Angeles wildfires rage through Pacific Palisades, the upscale celebrity neighborhood.
The area, located between Santa Monica and Malibu in northern Los Angeles roughly 20 miles southwest of the famous Hollywood sign, has some of the country’s most expensive real estate, with an average house price of $4.5 million, according to Realtor.com data.
Mark Hamill, Paris Hilton, Billy Crystal, and James Woods have all reported losing their homes.
Other celebrities with residences in Pacific Palisades include Michael Keaton, Tom Hanks, Reese Witherspoon, Bradley Cooper, Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston, Miles Teller, and Eugene Levy.
Later in the day, Paris Hilton shared on Instagram that she was “heartbroken beyond words” when she recognized her home during a news report.
“Sitting with my family, watching the news, and seeing our home in Malibu burn to the ground on live TV is something no one should ever have to experience,” Hilton wrote. “This home was where we built so many precious memories.”
“While the loss is overwhelming, I’m holding onto gratitude that my family and pets are safe. My heart and prayers are going out to every family affected by these fires,” she wrote.
“Evacuated Malibu so last-minute there were small fires on both sides of the road as we approached PCH,” he wrote. Hamill called it the “most horrific fire since ’96.”
The actor also criticized the government in a number of posts.
“We raised our children and grandchildren here. Every inch of our house was filled with love. Beautiful memories that can’t be taken away.”
“It’s just a catastrophe in Southern California,” she said. “Many, many, many, many, many friends now have lost their homes.”
Another actress affected was Kate Beckinsale.
“I knew it would be bad … but the shock at the whole of the Palisades being destroyed is unthinkably horrific,” the actress said, as she mourned the demise of schools, shops, and restaurants in the neighborhood.
“The Pacific Palisades is a community very unusual to find in Los Angeles, heavy on families with young children and pets.”
