Large corporations like Walmart all support Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden while looking down on supporters of President Donald Trump, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) asserted Wednesday.

Speaking hours after Walmart called him a “sore loser“ for planning to object to electoral votes for Biden during next month’s joint session of Congress, Hawley said he wasn’t surprised by the insult.

“These big corporations, these multinationals, they are, first of all, they are all woke now. They all supported Joe Biden. And they all secretly look down on the people they supposedly serve,” Hawley said during a virtual appearance on Fox News.

“I was stunned by that tweet by Walmart. I mean, you talk about insulting, you talk about condescending; I look forward to them explaining that to the millions of people who shop there, by the way, including me and my family. It’s certainly an interesting choice on their part, and I imagine their customers have something to say about it.”

Attempts to reach Walmart were unsuccessful.

Hawley earlier Wednesday became the first senator to commit to objecting to electoral votes on Jan. 6, 2021. Shortly thereafter, Walmart’s official Twitter account posted: “Go ahead. Get your 2 hour debate. #soreloser.”

Objections to electoral votes trigger a two-hour debate and a vote by both chambers of Congress on whether to uphold the challenges.

Walmart later deleted the tweet and apologized.

“The tweet published earlier was mistakenly posted by a member of our social media team. We deleted the post and have no intention of commenting on the subject of certifying the electoral college. We apologize to Senator Hawley for this error and any confusion about our position,” the Arkansas-based company said.

It has not commented further.

Calls to boycott Walmart trended on Twitter after the situation unfolded.
