Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Sunday said a second Biden administration would be disastrous for the world, dismissing suggestions by former Rep. Liz Cheney that a second Trump term would be bad.

In an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Mr. Graham was asked about Ms. Cheney’s recent comments during a CBS interview, in which she said the United States would be “sleepwalking into a dictatorship” if former President Donald Trump is reelected in 2024.

“I understand why people don’t like what he does and says at times,” Mr. Graham said. “But in terms of actions and results, he was a far better president for [sic] Biden. And if we have four more years of this, Liz Cheney, then we won’t recognize America and the world will be truly on fire.”

“I think a continuation of the Biden presidency would be a disaster for peace and prosperity at home and abroad,” the senator added. “Our border is broken. The only person who is really going to fix a broken border is Donald Trump. When he was president, none of this stuff was going on in Ukraine. Hamas and all these other terrorist groups were afraid of Trump.”

Ms. Cheney, a vocal critic of President Trump, was ousted as House Republican Conference Chair in 2021. At the time, Mr. Graham explained that her ouster was about “her belief President Trump should be purged from the GOP and those who objected to the results of the 2020 election should be disqualified from future leadership positions,” in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“As a result, the House GOP Conference has decided to move forward in a different direction,” Mr. Graham added in his post. “I am hoping the Republican Party will understand the biggest threat to conservatism is not Donald Trump, but the liberal agenda being pushed by the Biden Administration and their radical allies.”

Last month, Ms. Cheney said she wasn’t ruling out a 2024 presidential run during an interview with CNN. She lost to Trump-endorsed Harriet Hageman in the Wyoming Republican primary in 2022.
Mr. Graham, who is among 13 senators who have endorsed President Trump for 2024, took part in a Trump rally in Pickens, South Carolina, in July. At the rally, the senator said the former president was the only Republican candidate who “has the ability to change this country.”

“He did it once, he can do it again,” Mr. Graham said at the rally. “And he is going to win South Carolina. This is the pathway to the presidency.”

President Trump won South Carolina in 2020, picking up 55.1 percent of the votes to President Joe Biden’s 43.4 percent.

A Marquette Law School poll of 856 registered voters conducted in early November gave President Trump a 23-point advantage over President Biden on handling immigration and border and security, or 50 percent to 27 percent. Seven percent said both about the same and 16 percent said neither.
More than 7 million people have illegally crossed into the United States between ports of entry since President Biden took office in January 2021.

Respondents also believed President Trump to be better at handling the war between Israel and the Hamas terrorist group by an 11-point margin, or 42 percent to 31 percent. Eleven percent said both about the same and 16 percent said neither.

President Trump also held a 21-point lead over President Biden over the question of who was better on the economy.

As for the race for the Republican presidential nomination, President Trump is continuing to dominate the GOP field. An aggregate of polls from RealClearPolitics shows that as of Dec. 3, the former president is in the lead with 61.2 percent, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis a distant second with 13.9 percent.
