SANTA ANA, Calif.—A former Disneyland employee was sentenced Thursday to three years in federal prison for possession of child pornography.
Austin Larmour, 28, pleaded guilty June 20 to possession of child pornography.
Larmour possessed at least 11 files of child pornography that he obtained from a Telegram chat that he stored on his cellphone, federal prosecutors said.
Prosecutors credited Larmour for early acceptance of responsibility “as well as seeking and maintaining professional help.”
A doctor who evaluated the defendant concluded he has “complete or nearly complete control over his sexual behavior,” and “does not appear to have a persistent sexual attraction to children,” according to prosecutors. The doctor added the defendant was a “low risk” to re-offend, prosecutors said.
When confronted by investigators, Larmour admitted his culpability, prosecutors said.
Larmour’s engagement with law enforcement “have been effective so far in deterring him from illicit activity,” prosecutors said.
Prosecutors noted the defendant had a difficult childhood witnessing “physical and verbal abuse.” Larmour characterized his childhood and early adolescence as “tumultuous,” prosecutors said, adding he had a “difficult relationship with his father, especially when defendant was going through puberty—which led to issues he is still dealing with, through therapy.”
Larmour, who previously worked at Disneyland and Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, has since his arrest, maintained “gainful employment at a McDonald’s as a sales clerk and then an area manager and is flourishing in that role—so much so that he recently passed an exam to be a shift leader and received an employee of the month award,” prosecutors said.
“In his spare time, he also volunteers at an animal shelter, prosecutors said.
The case against Larmour originated with a Homeland Security Operation Swipe Left investigation in Arizona in 2021, according to an affidavit from Homeland Security Special Agent Joseph DeLuca.
The case started with the arrest of Michael Spatz of Gilbert, Arizona, who pled guilty in Arizona to sexual exploitation of a minor and was sentenced to 35 years in prison, DeLuca said.
