A police body camera video shows the moment a fleeing robbery suspect crashed into a Florida sheriff’s deputy vehicle.
Capell, who was driving a bright yellow Ford Mustang, was traveling at speeds of 100 mph during the chase. He was going 70 mph when his vehicle careened into the deputy’s cruiser, according to the report.
“These are the types of things that make you cringe,” said Pasco County Sheriff’s Office Chris Nocco. “You thank God everybody is safe.”
The footage shows another deputy jump out of his vehicle to check on Henrici, who is clearly dazed by the impact.
“We have great deputies,” said Nocco. ”That’s all instincts and training and just not gonna quit. She was not gonna quit.”
Nocco said the suspect had followed a couple from a bank, and when they stopped at an intersection along U.S. 19, he got out of his car and reached through the couple’s window before taking a bag of money.
A deputy witnesses the Mustang crash into another vehicle before it keeps going. The deputy then chases after it.
Deputies clocked the suspect going 100 mph and backed off the chase. That’s when the suspect attempted to make a U-turn, ran a red light, and hit the cruiser.
“According to my certified speedometer, we reached speeds in excess of 100 miles an hour and I was unable to maintain pace with the defendant,” a deputy wrote in a police report, WFLA reported.
When Capell, the suspect, was apprehended, officials discovered a crack pipe in his pocket.
“This is a very violent individual,” said Nocco of Capell, according to Bay News 9. “From 2008 to 2018, he’s been in our system 35 times, robbery, drug charges, resisting arrest.”
