Five people were rushed to hospital with injuries due to a shooting on the east side of Colorado Springs late on Tuesday, according to local reports.

The shooting followed a confrontation behind an Alta Convenience store, near the intersection of Palmer Park Boulevard and Potter Drive, according to reports.

The incident took place just after 7 p.m. local time, reported KOAA News 5. The outlet reported, citing police, that multiple gunshots were heard after a fight between two large groups.
“All are expected to survive,” KRDO reporter Bart Bedsole said on Twitter of the five victims. He also shared images of the aftermath of the incident at the scene.

Bedsole added that he was told the shooting “started as an altercation between two groups of mostly teenagers.”

The shooting lasted about two to three minutes, KRDO reported, citing a witness.

Police said they found two victims with injuries upon arriving at the scene, adding that a friend transported three other victims in a car to a local hospital, the outlet reported.

An investigation is underway. Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said juveniles may be involved, according to the outlet. Police have asked the public to stay away from the area.

Sgt. Alterae Rogers with the CSPD told FOX21 News late Tuesday that no arrests had been made. Suspects or suspect vehicles were also currently unknown.

Police were working with the convenience store to obtain video footage from a surveillance camera, Rogers added.

“CSPD is currently working a significant incident,” the department said on Twitter at 7:42 p.m. local time. “Citizens with emergencies should call 911. Non emergency issues should wait until we return to normal operations. We are also accident alert at this time.”
