The Benicia Fire Department is offering residents a free File of Life, which is a way to provide information to first responders in the event of an emergency, according to fire officials.
The File of Life is a magnetic pouch containing a card where residents can write their name, medical conditions, medications, drug allergies, emergency contacts and any other information that may be critical during a medical emergency.
“Our hope is that citizens with known medical conditions will acquire a File of Life, enter their information and place the pouch in an easy to find location, preferably the refrigerator,” Fire Chief Josh Chadwick said in a statement.
Firefighter paramedics can access the pouch in the event of a medical emergency where the person is unable to provide that crucial information.
Residents can get a File of Life free of charge at Benicia Fire Station 11 at 150 Military W. during regular business hours. Fire department personnel will also be handing them out at select public functions.
