A Missouri family has been plunged into fresh grief after the father was shot dead within days of losing his premature baby.
Father-of-three Scott Beary, 43, was killed in a sports bar in Florissant on Feb. 7 after an argument about a dog escalated, according to reports.
Carl Leavy, who saw the shooting, told the newspaper that the row started over a comment about a dog’s weight.
According to Leavy, the gunman’s friend said to bar patrons that he had a 290-pound German shepherd, but Beary said he couldn’t see how a dog could weigh almost as much as he did, the Dispatch reported.
As Beary left the bar, the gunman reportedly called him a “fat [expletive].” Moments later, four or five shots were fired into Beary’s chest, according to the newspaper.
Beary’s boss, Jeana Sellenschuetter, described him as “the greatest guy.”
Beary’s baby, Jocelyn, was born 14 ounces and lived for 11 days.
“I just wonder if the guy even knew what Scott had been through, would it have been any different?” said Sellenschuetter.
“He was a funny, extremely caring GREAT man that would be there for you at the drop of a hat. He always had jokes and funny stories to tell.”
Beary leaves behind three children aged 16, 15 and 13 according to the Dispatch.
“He’s up there with baby J holding her and loving her,” Sellenschuetter said. “He is the greatest guy.”
