Just after his latest legal woes concerning Special Counsel Jack Smith’s indictment of former President Donald Trump, the entire GOP Delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives from Alabama has thrown their support behind the former president.
Trump is set to speak at an Alabama Republican Party Dinner on Friday evening, Aug. 4, in Montgomery and announce the support, according to a campaign official speaking to Politico. In addition to the GOP’s congressional delegation from Alabama, five statewide officeholders have endorsed the former president.
Republican Gov. Kay Ivey and Sen. Katie Britt have not yet endorsed in the 2024 presidential race.
A statement from Britt on Friday said that she is maintaining neutrality in the Republican primary while serving on the Republican National Committee’s Republican Party Advisory Council. Trump endorsed Britt in the Republican Senate primary in 2022.
Who’s Who of Latest Endorsements
All six Alabama GOP House members, Robert Aderholt, Mike Rogers, Gary Palmer, Barry Moore and Dale Strong, are backing the former president in 2024. Sen. Tommy Tuberville is also throwing his support behind Mr. Trump.In Alabama Friday, Tuberville will introduce Trump at the state party’s dinner, according to the Alabama GOP.
“President Trump and Senator Tuberville are two of the most popular political figures in the State of Alabama. I am looking forward to hearing from these two conservative leaders when they make their remarks,” said Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl in a press release.
Tuberville, in the press release, said he was “excited” for Trump to “return to the most conservative state in the nation.”
“Alabama is Trump Country, and we’re going to do our part to help Make America Great Again,” said Tuberville.
Alabama’s entire Republican Congressional Delegation, as well as Governor Kay Ivey and every state constitutional officeholder, will also be in attendance at this year’s ALGOP Summer Dinner, the party announced.
“We are pleased to have the support of our elected officials as we head into the 2024 cycle,“ Wahl said. ”I want to see the Alabama Republican Party united against the out-of-control policies coming out of the leftist Democrat Party and the Biden Administration. We are going to support the American dream by pushing for fiscal responsibility, keeping our communities safe, bringing down runaway inflation, and protecting our children from woke policies. This is not going to be an easy election year, and it’s all hands on deck as we get ready to take back the White House and Senate, as well as hold on to the U.S. House.”
On the state level, Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth and Agriculture Commissioner Rick Pate, and all three members of the Alabama Public Service Commission are throwing their support to Trump in next year’s race to the White House.
Other Endorsements
Trump has courted the support of over 80 members of the U.S. House and Senate as of yet, with DeSantis having five, according to Politico.“Trump personally phoned the Alabama members over the past week and is expected to greet each of them during his visit to the state on Friday,” Politico reported.
Alabama represents the beginning of the Trump rally phenomenon, having held his first of many rallies in the city of Mobile in 2015, drawing an estimated 30,000 supporters.
His endorsement by then-Senator Jeff Sessions was one of his first major endorsements prior to Trump’s surge to the top of the GOP primary in 2016.
In a recent blow to the state, the Biden Administration announced it would not be moving forward with the relocation of the U.S. Space Force Command Headquarters to Alabama, leaving it in Colorado, a state much friendlier to the current president than the former.
Alabama is a part of the slate of state primaries that take place on “Super Tuesday,” with the fifth most delegates up for grabs out of the day’s states.
