A California gubernatorial recall election worker in a West Hollywood polling center was removed from the site on Sept. 14 for wearing pro-Trump clothing.
A voter posted a picture on Twitter of an election worker wearing a T-shirt and hat with a political message that evoked a strong response from the public, as the post has been retweeted approximately eight thousand times.
The photo depicted the election worker wearing a red “Where’s Hunter?” shirt and a baseball cap with the “Trump 2020” logo. The photo was taken at one of the voting centers in West Hollywood on Monday night.
After the photo went viral on Twitter, the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk responded and confirmed that this worker has been relieved from his post.
“The election worker was contacted and advised that the attire was inappropriate and unacceptable. Based on his response and reports that other workers had previously counseled him on this, he was released and is no longer working at the vote center,” posted on Twitter by Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk.
Others argued that the clothing was irrelevant and did not violate the election code since former President Donald Trump is not one of the candidates for the gubernatorial recall.
“Electioneering” includes using, posting, or distributing any political signs or literature. Given that Trump is not a candidate in the election, it is unclear whether the election code applies to this case.
“Nothing he’s wearing has anything to do with a current election or candidate. Everyone complaining just got triggered because it said Trump,” commented a Twitter user named Mike.
