The group claims it is committed to dismantling what they say is Israeli apartheid, the return of Palestinian refugees, and ending the Israeli colonization of historic Palestine, according to the organization’s website.
Video of the occupation of the consulate in San Francisco showed demonstrators taking over the lobby of the building on the 400 block of Montgomery Street.
The protesters chanted “Intifada, Intifada” and “Long live the intifada,” a word that means “uprising” or “rebellion.” They also held banners saying, “Zionism Kills,” and similar messages.
No injuries were reported during the incident, according to police. The suspects were cited for trespassing and released from the San Francisco County Jail. One suspect was cited and released at the scene on the same charge, police told The Epoch Times.
After officers arrived at the protest, they gave several warnings to demonstrators to disperse and leave the building.
“Officers developed and coordinated a strategic plan to detain multiple individuals for potential arrest,” police spokeswoman Officer Paulina Henderson told The Epoch Times. “Although arrests have been made, this remains an open and active investigation.”
