Donald Trump Jr. got the last laugh on March 25 in his feud with celebrity lawyer Michael Avenatti after federal prosecutors announced they were charging Avenatti with extortion.

The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York handed down the indictment against Avenatti over allegations that the lawyer demanded Nike pay him and a colleague millions of dollars or else he would release damaging information about the company.

The news came less than an hour after Avenatti tweeted his intentions to detail “a major high school/college basketball scandal” involving the sports company in a press conference Tuesday.

The president’s son, whom Avenatti once claimed would be indicted for collusion with the Russian government, reacted with glee to the news.

“It looks like you’ll be the one spending time behind bars after all,” Trump Jr. tweeted, adding Avenatti’s signature catchphrase, “#basta.”

Trump Jr. added, “Good news for my friend [Michael Avenatti], if you plead fast enough, you might just get to share a cell with Michael Cohen!”

Avenatti claimed in October 2018 that Trump Jr. would be indicted by the end of the year. Special Counsel Robert Mueller delivered his findings on collusion to Attorney General Bill Barr on Friday with no indictments against the president’s son.
