Butte County deputies and detectives suspect the death of a woman on a trail about two hours northeast of Sacramento last week was caused by a domestic dog attack.

The woman, who has been identified as Davina Corbin, 56, was found dead Aug. 8 around 2 a.m. on the Blackhawk Trail in Feather Falls.

According to authorities, an autopsy revealed multiple bite marks and injuries on Corbin’s body, and an analysis of her clothing confirmed the presence of DNA “consistent with domestic dog(s).”

After obtaining a search warrant for a home near where Corbin’s body was found, authorities say they located 25 Great Danes running loose on the property.

Butte County authorities said they captured 23 of the dogs, which were handed over to Animal Control.

“Deputies and detectives spent the entire day capturing the dogs,” a sheriff’s office press release said.

The sheriff’s office said Aug. 9 on its Facebook page that the two remaining dogs had been caught.

Information about the residence, or its owner, has not been released.

Detectives say they believe Corbin was walking when she was attacked, although it is still unclear if she was attacked by more than one dog. Authorities also said Corbin lived in the area surrounding the Blackhawk Trail.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office has encouraged anyone with information to come forward by calling detectives at 530-538-7671 or Animal Control at 530-538-7322.
