After a nearly two-year refurbishment, Disneyland in Anaheim, California, is reopening its Adventureland Treehouse—previously Tarzan’s Treehouse—this fall.
According to a recent announcement on the Disney Parks blog, a family, which possesses “magical and unique gifts” that help them survive life in the jungle will soon be moving into the treehouse once work is complete.
The treehouse, located next to the park’s Indiana Jones ride, will have newly re-themed rooms where kids can climb rope stairways and other giant branch bridges between them.
The new treehouse will pay tribute to Disney’s “Swiss Family Robinson” original treehouse that Disney “Imagineers” built for the park in 1962 prior to its Tarzan-themed makeover in 1999 in honor of Disney’s animated film detailing a young boy raised by apes.
As finishing touches are completed, many anticipate the treehouse’s final reveal and opening date, which has not yet been announced by park officials.
The re-themed treehouse also serves as a tie-in to a new Swiss Family Robinson television show in the works for the Disney+ streaming service, according to Disney park officials.
The story outlines a family of five. Each has “magical and unique gifts” that help them survive life in the jungle, which in turn have inspired each of the treehouse’s new magical-themed rooms.
Among such rooms is the teenage daughter’s, located near the top of the treehouse which will showcase her passion for astronomy including diagrams of the stars and models of the universe.
The father, known for his culinary masterpieces, has a kitchen where meals cook themselves also equipped with “magical water” fed by a wheel that keeps their refrigerator-style icebox cool.
Visitors to the new treehouse can also expect a nature-themed animal and plant room, inspired by the family’s twin boys and their affinity for such including man-eating plants, monkeys, toucans, and more.
The Swiss Family Robinson treehouse and the upcoming Disney Plus TV show were inspired by a novel written by Johann David Wyss in 1812.
