Dana Point is looking to its residents for feedback on what the town should be like in the next 20 years via its website, where locals can submit their ideas until May.
“Now is the time to take a deep dive into rewriting the plan for the 21st century,” city officials said on the site.
The city is updating its city general plan—its outline for future development, goals, and policies—for the first time in over three decades.
The city will also gather public input throughout the year at pop-up events, and in focus groups, and public study sessions, officials said.
Information already gathered last year, officials said, including possible changes to public safety and housing. While those ideas are still being considered, city records from last fall indicate many residents have expressed a desire for increased affordable housing for low-income residents, as well as shelters for homeless individuals.
In terms of public safety, thus far, plans include potential updates to address coastal erosion, which has become a growing concern in recent years across Orange County coastal areas, according to city records.
Residents can also submit input on the site’s interactive map, by clicking any area and typing suggestions for improvement.
