Shootings in Chicago over the weekend left eight dead and 20 others wounded.
Starting the evening of Friday, Oct. 19, seven people were shot, with two of them dying from their wounds, reported the Chicago Sun-Times. On Oct. 20, three people were shot dead and four others left wounded.
On Sunday, three people were killed and seven others wounded. And in the early hours of Monday, three men were wounded.
The violence appeared to start at 6:45 p.m. when Rodney Jernigan, 34, was shot while walking on a sidewalk in the 3100 block of West Washington Boulevard. The shooter approached Jernigan on foot and shot him in his chest and head.
Less than 24 hours later, Leetemi Daniels, 41, was shot multiple times in his abdomen and chest just after 2:30 p.m. in the same block. Daniels was declared dead at the scene.
The area has seen a gang war between the Black Souls and Gangster Disciples this year. In one case, less than a half-mile from the shootings, seven people were shot, one fatally.
Double Shooting
Another shooting that left one dead and one in critical condition took place in the Albany Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.At about 5:20 a.m., two men were sitting in a vehicle parked in an alley in the 4400 block of North Bernard Street when the shooter approached them on foot and shot one, Roberto Ramirez, 23, who lived a block away, in the head, killing him, reported the Sun-Times.
The other man, who was not identified, was rushed to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, the Chicago Police Department said.
