Officials in Chicago confirmed that separate shootings over the weekend left dozens injured and six dead, local media reported.
Police said that most of the incidents occurred on the South and West sides—areas that are known to have high violent crime rates. Several people were also shot in the city’s North Side and in Old Town, officials said.
On Monday morning, a man was shot and killed inside a vehicle in North Park, officials said, adding that they responded to gunfire in the 3400 block of West Catalpa Avenue. That’s when they discovered a man, 28, with a gunshot wound to the face at around 4 a.m. local time.
Hours before that, at around 9 p.m. Sunday, a 40-year-old man was killed and two others were injured after a shooter opened fire on them while they were congregated around a porch on South Deering in the city’s Far South Side, officials said.
Officials said that at around the same time, in Douglas Park, a 67-year-old male was killed and another man was critically injured when someone opened fire at them while they were on a porch in the 1600 block of South Washtenaw Avenue. The suspect was inside a black sedan, police told the Sun-Times.
Also on Sunday at around 11 p.m., Juan Antonio Gonzalez-Ramirez, 30, was shot and killed during a dispute between two groups in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood, police said.
A 26-year-old male, meanwhile, was killed while walking in West Garfield Park on Sunday night at 10 p.m., said police. He was walking on North Kenton Avenue when a group of people exited from a vehicle and fired shots at him, authorities confirmed.
A 41-year-old male was shot and killed on Saturday in Homan Square on the city’s West Side, authorities said. He was in the back of his home when someone fired shots, hitting him in the back, police said.
