At least nine people were killed and dozens were injured in separate shootings across Chicago over the past weekend, authorities said.
Chicago Police told local media that four people under the age of 18 were shot in the time frame between Friday night and early Monday morning.
Hours later, on Saturday at about 4:45 a.m., in another shooting, a woman, 20, and a man, 23, were hit by gunfire in the 4800 block of North Central Avenue, officials said. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital and was pronounced dead, while the male is in critical condition.
About an hour earlier on Saturday, a 41-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man were sitting in a car in the 300-block of South Hoyne Avenue when they were shot, police told ABC7. The man was pronounced dead after being taken to Stroger Hospital, officials said.
In another incident, a 27-year-old woman was shot by someone in a hallway at a building in the 7100-block of South Ridgeland Avenue, officials told the ABC affiliate. She was later pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
On Saturday evening, an 18-year-old man was shot dead in Englewood on the South Side as he was walking through a gas station at around 8 p.m. in the 110 block of West 63rd Street when a vehicle drove past him and someone inside opened fire, police said.
Hours earlier, officials said a 54-year-old male identified as Parrish Peeples was fatally shot in West Englewood. He was standing on a porch at around 5:15 p.m. Saturday when several individuals emerged from a vehicle and shot him, officials told ABC7.
It also showed that about 797 people were murdered in 2020, while about 3,400 were shot and injured.
