SEAL BEACH, Calif.—Two 16-year-olds—a boy and a girl—were arrested in connection with an alleged carjacking on Sept. 14, while authorities continued on Sept. 15 to search for a third suspect, described as a man in his 20s.

The suspects allegedly stole the vehicle at knifepoint in Norwalk, but responding officers were not able to locate the vehicle. Further details were not available. But around 8:45 a.m. Thursday, Seal Beach officers responded to an automated license plate reader alert, according to Seal Beach Police Department spokeswoman Lt. Julia Clasby.

Responding officers received a second alert around 9:33 a.m. as the vehicle traveled through Old Town in Seal Beach. It was later located in the 700 block of Electric Avenue, and responding officers initiated a traffic stop while positioned behind the alleged stolen vehicle, Ms. Clasby said.

Three suspects exited the moving vehicle and fled on foot as the vehicle continued northbound and stopped when it crashed into an unoccupied parked vehicle in the Mary Willson Library parking lot, she said.

Two juveniles were quickly arrested, while personnel from the police departments of Seal Beach, Los Alamitos, Cypress, and Huntington Beach assisted with locating a third suspect in the area, described as a man in his 20s.

Both juveniles are 16. Investigators identified them as a boy from Whittier and a girl from Pico Rivera. Due to their age, their identities were withheld from the public.

Ms. Clasby said the teens were later released into their parents’ custody.

According to Ms. Clasby, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department recovered and took the alleged stolen vehicle into their custody.

Anyone with information regarding the missing suspect or the alleged carjacking was urged to contact Seal Beach PD Detective Sgt. Gibson at 562-799- 4100 at extension 1172 or by email at [email protected].
