California police officers released body camera footage that showed police officers firing at least 65 times in 15 seconds at a murder suspect.
The dramatic footage comes from a situation in San Francisco on Feb. 17 in the city’s Mission Bay neighborhood.
Officers confronted Joel Armstrong, a 31-year-old murder suspect, inside an RV at a homeless encampment.
A day earlier, Armstrong allegedly shot two people inside Panhandle Park. One of the victims died.
A department-wide bulletin was issued identifying Armstrong as the suspect, telling officers to keep an eye out for him and the stolen vehicle.
On Feb. 17, officers located the carjacked vehicle just after midnight behind an RV near the intersection of Alameda and De Haro Streets.
Officers peered into the RV’s windows and saw Armstrong inside.
He was ordered out multiple times but refused to obey. Officers said they then heard shots coming from the RV.
Preliminary evidence indicated that Armstrong fired two rounds from his weapon while seven police officers fired 65 rounds.
Armstrong was later apprehended. after surrendering to police about two hours after the officers spotted the carjacked vehicle.
He said Armstrong had served time in prison for illegal possession of a firearm.
At a community meeting, a number of people expressed concern about the number of homeless camps in the area.
Officers said they’re working on moving homeless people into housing.
