A California officer was killed and another injured after responding to a report of an unidentified individual barricaded inside a Pomona home.
Pomona Police Chief Mike Olivieri announced on Twitter that one of the two had died and the other was in stable condition on Saturday morning, March 10.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must report that one officer did not survive,” Olivieri stated.
There are no reports of any arrests in connection with the incident, which took place in the 1400 block of S. Palomares St., KTLA5 reported.
Video from the scene broadcast by local media reportedly showed a policeman in uniform on the ground receiving CPR, while the sound of gunfire rang out.
Chief Olivieri tweeted that two officers had been shot and that SWAT team members had arrived on the scene, which he called “still active.”
At 11:45 p.m. the standoff was still unresolved.
The following morning, Olivieri broke the news of the death of one of his deputies. The two officers were both with the Pomona Police Department.
Condolences have been posted on social media.
Olivieri tweeted that the body of the fallen officer would be escorted to the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office at 6 a.m. local time.
