SANTA ANA, Calif.—A 31-year-old man has been sentenced to two years in prison for leading police on a drug-fueled chase with a 6-year-old girl in the backseat of his vehicle, according to court records obtained Jan. 30.

Police attempted to pull Kevin Gregory Ruff over Jan. 13 for a traffic violation, but he kept going, police said. Police quickly stopped the pursuit, but about 60 to 90 seconds later he crashed, police said.

According to the criminal complaint, Ruff tried to get rid of stolen bank checks following the crash.

Kevin Gregory Ruff pleaded guilty Thursday to single counts each of driving under the influence of drugs causing injury, failing to stop at a hit-and-run accident with injury, leading police on a chase, child abuse, and endangerment, four counts of identity theft, all felonies.

Ruff also pleaded guilty to two counts of driving under the influence of a drug causing injury, and one count each of destroying evidence, driving on a suspended license, and hit-and-run with property damage, all misdemeanors.

Ruff pleaded guilty in July 2018 to identity theft, according to court records.
