BREA, Calif.—The city’s Independence Day celebration kicked off by announcing the winners of the Community Home Beautification Challenge at the annual Country Fair on Monday.
The July Fourth home decorating competition—held for the first time in 2020 —showcases the community’s patriotic spirit. This year, the city received 20 entries.
“We did this for the first time in 2020 during COVID to try and help people bring their spirit back and be able to celebrate Fourth of July in a different way,” Kristin Steyerman, Brea’s community services supervisor, told The Epoch Times.
This years’ winners are Matt Jones, Eric Carlson, and Alexandra Rovira. Each took home a $100 Home Depot gift card.
Members of the Country Fair Steering Committee, a sponsor of the city’s 41st annual July Fourth Country Fair, selected the winners.
To compete, participants must be Brea residents and send in a photo of their home with Independence Day decor.
In addition, the annual Country Fair featured various activities including a pie-eating contest, car show, live entertainment, and parade. The fair ran from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and welcomed thousands of community members.
“We are so just so excited to be back out in a really big and impactful way for our community. We love to celebrate Brea, our freedoms and that whole July 4th in the United States of America is all about ... that small town feeling here in Brea is amazing,” said Steyerman.
