A father in Washington state discovered an Uber driver allegedly sexually assaulting his daughter over Father’s Day weekend and tried to shoot the driver but missed. Instead, he and other relatives beat the driver who appeared bruised in court on Monday, June 17, to face rape and kidnapping charges.

The Uber driver, identified as 58-year-old Ahmed Ali, allegedly picked up an intoxicated woman early Saturday, June 15, morning who was drinking with friends at some Olympia-area bars, according to a press release by the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO).

TCSO reported that its deputies responded to a report of a weapons violation and a car was seen fleeing the area. When the car was intercepted, a deputy found the driver was injured.

“TCSO detectives were called in to assist and determined that the driver leaving the scene was a rideshare driver who had provided transportation to a highly intoxicated female. The female’s father discovered her being sexually assaulted by the rideshare driver near a well-known fishing spot,” according to TCSO.

The driver used his Uber app to indicate he dropped the woman home, but instead drove her to an area near the Nisqually River.

The woman’s father and other family members went looking for her, using his cellphone to track her whereabouts when she did not return home.

The woman was allegedly found naked in the back seat of Mr. Ali’s car. The victim’s family attacked the driver to stop him, and two shots were fired but did not hit him.

TCSO said the suspect has been charged with second degree rape and kidnapping.

Thurston County Superior Court Judge John Skinder set Mr. Ali’s bail at $100,000. Mr. Skinder also imposed conditions if the suspect posts bail he is not to contact the victim, work for any rideshare agencies, or possess any weapons.

Mr. Ali is due to appear for an arraignment hearing on July 2, according to court documents.
