Alabama Sen. Katie Britt Endorses Trump for President

Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) on Wednesday endorsed former President Donald Trump for president in 2024, saying that he is the one candidate who can “achieve peace through strength.”

“One candidate has already proven he’s more than up for the job–because he’s done the job successfully. There is one candidate I know will secure the border—because he’s done it. There is one candidate I know will achieve peace through strength—because he’s done it. And that’s why President Donald Trump has my endorsement to be our 47th President,” Ms. Britt wrote in an op-ed published in Yellowhammer News.

“Results matter—and the results of his strong leadership as the 45th President of the United States are clear for all to see,” she added. “These past three years have felt like an eternity, but I’m sure you recall how much better off we were under the Trump Administration.”

The Alabama senator went on to speak about the former president’s domestic and foreign policy achievements. She pointed to lower costs for gasoline, eggs, and milk, as evidence of his “policies at work.”

The former president also secured the southern border, cut taxes and reduced regulations, combated the opioid epidemic, fought for veterans, rebuilt the U.S. military, and “unleashed American energy dominance,” according to Ms. Britt.

“He battled for fair trade and held Communist China accountable,” Ms. Britt wrote. “Our adversaries feared America, and our allies were protected. He obliterated ISIS, signed the Abraham Accords, kept [Russian President Vladmir] Putin’s aggression at bay, stared down Kim Jong Un, and squeezed Iran dry.”

During four years of his presidency, President Trump chose not to follow his predecessors’ policy of engagement with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP); instead, the former president confronted the Chinese regime head-on, pushing back against its malign influence and hostile behaviors.

The Biden administration has revived the policy of engagement. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, and President Joe Biden’s climate envoy John Kerry, all have visited China this year.

“That’s why President Trump is dominating in the polls and why his insurmountable lead only continues to grow as primary dates draw closer,” Ms. Britt added. “For our future–for the ability of the next generation to fulfill the promise that is the American Dream–it’s time to ensure President Biden only gets one term.”

A new Monmouth University national poll, surveying 540 Republican and Republican-leaning voters from Nov. 30 to Dec. 4, showed that 63 percent would prefer to have President Trump be the only Republican candidate, while 28 percent would want a contested primary.

Fifty-four percent of respondents said the former president is the strongest candidate against President Biden, up from 48 percent who held such belief in September and 45 percent in July.

The poll also found President Trump continues to be the frontrunner in the GOP field. The former president led with 58 percent of support, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in a distant second with 18 percent. Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley finished third with 12 percent.

“We can parse these numbers until the cows come home, but the results don’t look good for any candidate not named Trump,” said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute. “Certainly, there is always an outside chance of an upset in an early primary shaking things up, but most Republicans seem to anticipate an inevitable outcome.”

With Ms. Britt’s endorsement, there are now 16 senators who have chosen to endorse the former president’s 2024 bid. Also on Wednesday, Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.) took to his Facebook to announce his endorsement of the former president.

“President Trump is strong on the issues that are important for North Dakota. That includes making America energy dominant, reducing the regulatory burden, securing our border, growing our economy, and strong support for our military,” Mr. Hoeven wrote.

After Ms. Britt announced her endorsement, Mr. DeSantis, Ms. Haley, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie took part in the fourth Republican presidential debate in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

All Republicans on Alabama’s congressional delegation have endorsed President Trump: Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Ala.), Rep. Barry Moore (R-Ala.), Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Ala.), Rep. Dale Strong (R-Ala.), and Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Ala.).
