Oklahoma police called off an Amber Alert issued for a 7-month-old baby after he was found dead on Wednesday, March 7. The baby’s homeless father has been charged with his murder.
Police were looking for Victor Manuel Minjarez, 31, who allegedly kidnapped his son, Jody Minjarez, in February.
Minjarez was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and unlawful disposal of human remains.
Police said they were unable to locate Minjarez because he was homeless. However, they believed he may have been staying in the metro, a motel, or with a friend.
On Feb. 23, an emergency Victim Protective Order was issued to the child’s mother, which required the return of her 7-month-old.
Five days later, the mother allegedly received a message from Minjarez through his friend that she “would never see her son again,” said the statement.
“Based on this information, it is believed that 7-month-old Jody Minjarez is in imminent danger of bodily harm or death,” the statement said.
However, an Amber Alert was not issued until March 7, after police received “evidence of further recent criminal behavior,” according to the release.
Police called off the Amber Alert later on Wednesday after they discovered Jody’s body.
The medical examiner is set to determine the baby’s cause of death.
Minjarez is currently being held in Oklahoma City Jail.
