5-Year-Old Boy Tests Positive for Meth After Allegedly Eating Halloween Candy: Reports

An Ohio boy, 5, has reportedly tested positive for methamphetamine after allegedly eating tainted Halloween candy, according to media reports. Officials say he’s expected to make a full recovery.

“The left side of his face was just droopy and then he fell and then he couldn’t move his left arm,” Julia Pence, the mother of the boy, told WSYX-TV. “And he didn’t know where he was, he didn’t know what he was doing.”

Braylen Carwell, the boy, was hospitalized for a suspected seizure, but he later tested positive for meth.

The Galion Police Department collected his fake vampire teeth and candy, issuing a warning on Facebook about checking candy and other non-candy items like fake teeth, necklaces, or rings.

“If you suspect that anything has been tampered with, please contact our department by phone so that an officer can stop and collect the items,” the department said on Facebook. The department said it hasn’t received any other reports of tainted candy of Halloween items.

“The little boy is being treated and is expected to make a full recovery,” it said.

“You can tell he is still coming down from it,” she told the media outlet. “Because one minute he is all hyper and the next minute he is tired.” However, at the time of the report, Pence said she could still see the effects on her son.

Boy Speaks Out

“I was putting my socks on, and then I started to shiver,” the 5-year-old told WBNS. “And then I couldn’t move my arm or my fingers.”

“Until I got to the doctor’s and I was sitting for a little bit and then I could move my hand but not my fingers,” Braylon continued.

He was then rushed to the hospital by his father, Cambray Carwell, who told officers that he had taken his kids trick-or-treating.

Braylen said that he didn’t eat any candy. “No,” he told WBNS. “I only put the fake teeth in.” He said he got the fake teeth while trick-or-treating.

“It’s your duty to protect your children from everything,” Pence added. “You can’t protect them from everything. You just have to be aware and do the best that you can.”

Pence told WBNS that both she and her father are recovering drug addicts, and she said she’s been clean for more than three years. She said that Braylen didn’t come into contact with meth that wasn’t from trick-or-treating.

“I’m not covering up the truth,” she told the outlet. “I’m just speaking the truth of what happened to my son, yesterday. Nobody in my family or [Braylen’s] dad’s family would drug my children.”

Another Issue With Fake Teeth

It comes just a day after a woman in Alabama said she was forced to get emergency dental work (as seen in the top video).
Anna Tew, of Mobile County, Alabama, said she used the temporary glue that came with the store-bought vampire teeth. She said that her efforts to remove the fake vampire teeth, which grew painfully tight, lasted until the early morning hours. “I even took a pair of wire clippers and cut the tips off of those,” she told WKRG.

“Never do it again. Never will I put anything like that back in my mouth,” she said after the dental work was done to remove the teeth.
