Police in New York said at least five people, including three infants, were stabbed or slashed at an overnight daycare center in Queens.

Three baby girls no more than a month old are allegedly among the victims of the attack, NBC New York reported. Police said the father of one of the children was stabbed in the leg and a female coworker was also wounded.

All of the infants are in critical but stable condition.

None of the injuries sustained by any of the victims are considered life-threatening.

A 3-day-old girl and a 1-month-old girl were stabbed in the abdomen, and a 20-day-old girl suffered cuts to her ear, chin, and lip.

A 52-year-old daycare worker is the prime suspect in the attack, according to NBC, with reports of police recovering a butcher knife and cleaver at the crime scene.

Police said nine babies were in the house at the time of the attack, CBS reported, and the suspected attacker was discovered in the basement with her wrist slashed.
Authorities said the stabbings happened at around 3:45 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at a facility in Flushing, according to CBS.

All five victims have been taken to hospital for treatment.

The remaining four uninjured children were taken away from the facility for observation.

Authorities said the suspect was in custody and being treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to CBS.

Police have not announced any motive for the stabbings.
