3 Suspects Get Away with $900,000 in Gems from Irvine Store

IRVINE, Calif.—Irvine police Aug. 1 were looking for three smash-and-grab robbers who got away with about $900,000 in valuables in a daring afternoon heist.

The three suspects—wearing all black with hoodies and masks—barged into Jewels by Alan at 2963 Michelson Drive about 12:20 p.m. Monday with two tall kitchen-sized trash cans and hammers, Irvine police Sgt. Karie Davies said.

As two customers hit the deck, the thieves smashed open display cases and scooped up gems before fleeing in a getaway car, Davies said.
