Three people were killed in a shooting that occurred around noon on Feb. 21 in Louisville, Kentucky, authorities confirmed in an email to The Epoch Times.
The incident took place outside a Driver Licensing Regional Office in the parking lot, where police arrived to find three victims with gunshot wounds.
A male victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while two female victims were transported to the University of Louisville Hospital with life-threatening injuries, but they both later died, Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) Public Information Officer John Bradley said.
Witnesses reported seeing individuals fleeing the scene in a vehicle, but police have not released a description of the suspect or the vehicle involved.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and gathering witness statements to piece together the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
When asked whether the shooting was a murder-suicide, Boeckman stated that it was too early to determine the nature of the crime.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the victims were connected or whether they were targeted. It remains unclear what the victims were doing at the time.
The Kentucky State Police responded to the scene but are not involved in the investigation, as the incident took place on state property, officials said.
Boeckman described the shooting as a tragedy, noting that the number of people present in the area at the time made the incident even more alarming.
“I’m surprised that more people weren’t injured, given how many were standing outside,” he said.
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward and contact the department’s tip line at 574-LMPD. Authorities said they will provide further updates as new information becomes available.
Police said there were no more planned updates on the shooting at this time.
