LOS ANGELES—Three Los Angeles police officers were injured during an unlawful assembly in the Arts District near downtown Los Angeles, the department announced Sunday.
The action happened around 8:40 p.m. Saturday in the 600 block of South Anderson Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
Patrol officers from the Hollenbeck Division responded to the area and found a large group of people shooting fireworks and throwing rocks and bottles at them. The officers called for backup and an unlawful assembly was declared, the LAPD reported.
Officers established a skirmish line and began to push the group away from the area. Eventually, the group was dispersed and there were no arrests made, the department reported.
One officer suffered a laceration to his chest from a thrown rock. A second officer suffered a head injury and the third sustained abrasions to his leg and wrist from fireworks that exploded on his body, the LAPD reported.
In the aftermath, officers found the area had been heavily vandalized, with buildings having been tagged by graffiti.
