MONTEREY PARK, Calif.—Three people were killed early June 28 in a solo vehicle crash in Monterey Park, and the driver was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

Officers from the Monterey Park Police Department responded to East Graves Avenue and Cecil Street at 12:34 a.m. where they found an SUV which had struck a tree, hit three vehicles, and rolled over on its roof, according to reports from the scene.

One victim was ejected and found on the roof of a nearby house and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Sgt. Rudy Contreras of the Monterey Park Police Department. Two adults found inside the SUV were also pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was located outside the vehicle, assisting her 7-year-old daughter out of the SUV, Mr. Contreras said. Both the mother and daughter were taken to Los Angeles General Medical Center with minor injuries, Mr. Contreras said.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner later identified one of the victims as 34-year-old Alexander Cota Jr.

NBC 4 reported police said the driver was speeding prior to the crash.

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision was asked to call the Monterey Park Police Department at 626-307-1200.
