A collision involving an alleged wrong-way driver in Lake Balboa left a 60-year-old woman and a 5-year-old boy dead and four other people injured, authorities said June 30.
The collision was reported around 9:35 p.m. on June 29 on Woodley Avenue north of Burbank Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
According to police, a white 2014 Honda Accord with two occupants was northbound on Woodley Avenue “when it veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a gray 2020 Honda Civic [that was southbound].”
The occupants of the Accord were transported by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics for hospital treatment. The driver, a man in his 30s, suffered critical injuries and the passenger, a woman in her 30s, suffered moderate injuries, police said.
Three occupants of the Civic were also taken to hospitals. The driver, a man in his 30s, suffered minor injuries, and the front-seat passenger, a 27-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries, police said.
A 5-year-old boy riding in a back seat of the Civic died at the hospital, police said. He was identified by the Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner on Friday as Yeshua Cordova Tobar, of Los Angeles. A 60-year-old woman, also riding in a back seat of the Civic, died at the scene, police said. Her name was withheld, pending notification of her relatives.
“Valley Traffic detectives have assumed investigative responsibilities,” police said late Friday morning. “The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.”
