IRVINE, Calif.—Pro-Palestinian protesters rallied outside University of California–Irvine (UCI) Chancellor Howard Gilman’s house in University Hills on Memorial Day, May 27.
More than two dozen protesters attended the morning rally, some with graphic posters and others using megaphones to spread the word: “Howard Gillman you won’t rest until UCI divests.”
The group was there from about 8 to 10 a.m. before voluntarily dispersing.
This latest protest comes after law enforcement cleared the UCI Palestine solidarity encampment and arrested several dozen protesters on May 15.
Prior to that, protesters occupied the lawn outside the Physical Sciences Lecture Hall for a little over two weeks to demand that UCI disclose any financial ties with Israel and divest from all companies that do business with Israel. Protesters also have called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.
