Authorities said that two people were arrested on weapons charges in Washington near the White House on Feb. 13.
“On Feb. 13 at approximately 5:24 p.m., two individuals approached U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division officers near 15th St. NW and Pennsylvania Ave,“ said a spokesperson for the U.S. Secret Service to The Epoch Times. ”One of the individuals disclosed the possession of a weapon and was immediately detained and the second individual disclosed the location of an additional weapon in a vehicle nearby.”
The spokesperson said that a vehicle was located and the weapon was seized. The first suspect was arrested for having a BB gun, while the second suspect was arrested for carrying a handgun without a license, possession of an unregistered firearm, and possession of unregistered ammunition, officials said.
Washington has among the strictest gun laws in the United States.
“During the course of the encounter and subsequent arrests, the individuals posed no immediate danger to any Secret Service protectee,” said the spokesperson.
The names of the arrested suspects were not provided.
President Joe Biden was not at the White House at the time after he departed for Camp David in Maryland on Friday.
It comes as thousands of National Guard members are still stationed in Washington, namely near the Capitol building following the Jan. 6 incident.
