Supporters of President Donald Trump are organizing a “Second Presidential Inauguration Ceremony” for Jan. 20, the date the next president of the United States is scheduled to be sworn in.
The virtual event has attracted hundreds of thousands of responses and gone viral on social media.
Over 62,000 people said they plan on attending.
Evi Kokalari-Angelakis is one of the organizers. According to her online profiles, she is a real estate agent who is a member of the Trump Victory Finance Committee 2020, which fund raises for Trump’s reelection campaign.
Kokalari-Angelakis didn’t respond to a request for comment, nor did Ilir Chami, another organizer.
Facebook placed a label on the event that says: “Joe Biden is the president-elect. He will be inaugurated as the 46th U.S. president on Jan. 20, 2021.”
Kokalari-Angelakis wrote of the label: “Our voting rights are under attack! So is our freedom of speech! And FB’s disclaimer on this post proves just that.”
Trump told reporters last month that he doesn’t want to say whether he would attend Biden’s inauguration if the Democrat wins the election.
“I mean, I know the answer,” he said. “I’ll be honest, I know the answer but I just don’t want to say it yet.”
