Supporters of President Donald Trump lined up 24 hours ahead of a scheduled rally in Texas at the Toyota Center.
Lisa Brewer claimed the first spot in line around 10 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21. By nightfall, more than 175 people had joined her. The rally in Houston is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
“I just got out of bed and ran down here,” Brewer, a freight logistics manager, told the Chronicle. “I didn’t know people would be here right after me.” She was joined by her daughter-in-law Jami Brewer.
Glen Collins and his fiancee, DeeJay Miller, got in line on Sunday after ditching a plan to spend the night in a hotel after driving 180 miles to Houston.
“We thought we‘d get down here at 6 a.m., but when I drove down here to scout it out, I seen the line and I said ’We can’t take our chances. We just gotta sit out here,'” said Collins.
Set to appear with the president at the rally is Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), fighting for re-election against challenger Rep. Beto O'Rourke. Other Republican officials and challengers will likely join President Trump as well.
In a video she recorded around seven hours prior to the start of the rally showed the line snaking around multiple blocks.
“It’s a sea of Donald Trump and Ted Cruz supporters. The line is now spilling into Discovery Green, blocks away from Toyota Center. This is 7+ hours before the rally,” she wrote on Twitter.
