Former President Donald Trump revealed Tuesday that he voted for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the state’s gubernatorial race.
When asked by a reporter Tuesday if he voted for DeSantis, Trump replied: “Yes, I did.”
Trump said Tuesday that he might announce his campaign for president on Nov. 15. The 45th president has often suggested he would make such an announcement during the final weeks of the midterms.
“I think Tuesday will be a very exciting day for a lot of people and I look forward to seeing you at Mar-a-Lago,” he told reporters.
On Monday night, before Trump was to take the stage at a rally in Ohio, there were rumors he would officially confirm he is running for president. However, those rumors turned out to be false, and he instead said he’s making a “big announcement” on Nov. 15, coming a week after the midterms.
That announcement will come at his Mar-a-Lago residence, Trump told rally-goers on Monday.
“We want nothing to detract from the importance of tomorrow. You understand that,” Trump said before naming a long list of GOP nominees. The former president declined to elaborate.
Tens of millions of voters are heading to the polls to cast votes for the crucial midterm elections Tuesday. Many forecasters say Republicans will very likely capture the House and have a good chance of taking the Senate.
“This is the year we’re going to take back the House,” he also said. “We’re going to take back the Senate. And we’re going to take back America. And in 2024, most importantly, we are going to take back our magnificent White House. We'll take it back.”
Trump’s statement about voting for DeSantis comes days after he referred to the Florida governor as “Ron DeSanctimonius” amid speculation DeSantis might run for president in 2024. DeSantis has not said he is planning to run for president.
“With thousands of proud, hard-working American patriots, incredible people–just two days from now, the people of Florida are going to reelect the wonderful, the great, a friend of mine, Marco Rubio to the United States Senate, and you’re going to reelect Ron DeSantis as your governor of the state,” Trump said. “And you’re going to elect an incredible slate of true MAGA warriors to Congress.”
