Former President Donald Trump on Thursday said White House reporters during President Joe Biden’s first press conference asked him “strange” and “softball” questions.
“They were strange questions and they were asked in a very interesting way. It was like softballs, like you’re throwing softballs up. And it’s just a different world, nobody’s seen anything like it,” Trump told Fox News.
During the press conference, Biden took about 30 questions from corporate news outlets. He did not appear to take any questions from conservative-leaning outlets.
Trump noted that even Fox News didn’t get to ask a question.
“It’s very sad to watch, actually. They’re feeding him questions, they’re easy questions. I noticed Peter Doocy didn’t get to ask a question today,“ Trump said, referring to Fox News’ White House correspondent. ”And there could be no difficult questions, and they’re ready to rip the microphone away if somebody did get a little bit testy.”
“Look, the whole thing is ridiculous,“ he said. ”You know it and so do I.”
Throughout his candidacy and presidency, Trump often pilloried mainstream news outlets such as The New York Times, NBC, CNN, and others, noting that they depended on him and his personality for ratings.
The former president, referring to the massive surge of illegal immigrants at the border, added: “If you look at NBC, ABC, CBS, and of course CNN and MSNBC, and see—if you look at some of those networks—it’s just not covered. It’s covered so little. It’s amazing. And it’s a massive story because it’s going to destroy—it’s going to destroy our country.”
Later in the Thursday interview, the former commander-in-chief said he prefers not to be on Twitter—his favored social media platform for years and one he used with devastating effectiveness—and instead now prefers to release statements. Twitter permanently suspended Trump’s account in early January following the Jan. 6 riots at the Capitol.
“I almost like it better, I think I do like it better,” Trump said.
Trump did not say whether he plans to run for president in 2024 and did not elaborate on his plans.
Biden told reporters Thursday that he expects to run for reelection with Vice President Kamala Harris on the ticket.
“The answer is yes, my plan is to run for reelection,” Biden said during the news conference. “That’s my expectation.” “
I’m a great respecter of fate. I’ve never been able to plan four and a half, three and a half years ahead for certain,” he said in a follow-up question.
