A 14-year-old female hit and killed by a truck in Toronto, Canada, near Elia Middle School on Tuesday morning has been identified as Violet Jia Liang, according to the Toronto Star.
She was a student at C. W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute.
Her vital signs were absent at the scene of the accident, Toronto Emergency Medical Services told the Star. The accident occurred just before 8 a.m. at Sentinel Rd. and Lamberton Blvd.
“[The driver made a] left turn onto Lamberton, at which point the 14-year-old girl was struck,” Toronto police Const. Clint Stibbe told reporters at the scene. “We are looking for any witnesses to call police as soon as possible.”
Stibbe told CTV News: “It’s too early to determine whether or not she was actually crossing at the appropriate area of the roadway. ...We know she was in the area based on the residual evidence at the scene.”
C.W. Jefferys principal, Monday Gala, said Liang was: “A fantastic student with whom I shared a few really very good moments.”
It was her first day of school in her second year of a grade nine–grade ten enrichment program.
