TOKYO, Japan—A Japanese IT company president enjoyed Shen Yun Performing Arts, which he felt was  amazing, majestic, and somehow familiar.

“When the curtain first opened, I was shocked. The performance is incredibly amazing,” said Mr. Anbo Mituru, the president of an IT company in Tokyo, after attending Shen Yun at the Shinjuku Bunka Center in Tokyo on Jan. 25.

“[The dancers’] skills are superb. They jumped, spun, and flipped in those extraordinary ways.  The dances are beyond my expectations,” he said. “The dancers’ capabilities of controlling their bodies are very advanced. They always kept on smiling when dancing, which is fantastic.”

Mr. Anbo said Shen Yun’s backdrop cooperates with the dance in a very clever way, and broke the limit of the space.

“It’s really awesome! The timing was controlled very well. The dancers jumped backward, and the backdrop showed the figures exactly at the moment they should come,” he said. “It’s amazing.”

New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s top classical Chinese dance company, and has a mission to show the beauty and goodness of “China before communism.” For 5,000 years China’s civilization was built on values and virtues from the spiritual teachings of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism.
Each Shen Yun performance consists of nearly 20 vignettes, presented through highly-expressive art forms such as classical Chinese dance, original orchestral music performed live, soloists who sing in the bel canto tradition, animated digital backdrops, and more.

“The baritone’s song is very meaningful and inspiring. He sang that we human beings came to the earth from heaven. I felt the writer of the lyrics must be a divine being,” he said.

Mr. Anbo felt that some of the stories that Shen Yun presented felt very familiar, like he had experienced it before. He appreciated Shen Yun’s effort to revive traditional Chinese culture, because he believes traditional culture is the foundation of a nation, and has the power to unify people.

Shen Yun ‘Is Impeccably Perfect’

Ms. Tsugawa Emiko is the chairman of a social welfare association. She felt blessed and lucky that she could attend Shen Yun, and said she admired Shen Yun artists.

“The dancers’ movements are exquisite, which are really wonderful. The costumes are gorgeous and breathtaking. The colors are saturated and impressively beautiful. The music, oh, is pleasant to my ears,” she said. “Amazing! The show is impeccably perfect.”

The name “Shen Yun” translates as the “beauty of divine beings dancing.”

Ms. Ryuke Makoto is a pianist, music therapist, and influencer. She said she felt Shen Yun was very different anything else she had attended.

“I attend different shows frequently. When the curtain (of Shen Yun) first opened, I immediately felt the field of Shen Yun is very different, which is very powerful and majestic,” she said. “It’s very touching. It brought me the knowledge of traditional culture, which is magnificent.”

As an artist, Ms. Ryuke said she understood the values that Shen Yun delivered, which touched her heart. To understand the traditional culture better, she bought a copy of “Zhuan Falun,” the main text of Falun Dafa, a spiritual meditation discipline that revolves around the three core principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance.

‘Highest-Class’

“This performance represents the highest standard of any performance in the world,” said Mr. Fukue Toshimasa, an executive of a welfare company, after attending Shen Yun in Tokyo on Jan. 25. He then said the dances are “highest-class.”

“The performance is absolutely perfect. The dancers synchronized accurately. Even they jumped to the same high,” he said. “The fantastic cooperation between the dance and music, and the stunning interaction between the stage and the backdrop … it’s really spectacular!”

Mr. Yoshioka Teruhiro, a department manager of an IT company, said all Shen Yun dancers were full of energy.

“They presented very rich expressions, and performed the roles very appropriately,” he said. “I believe they dance using their hearts. Then we audiences can feel what they are thinking and what they feel.”

Mr. Yoshioka said he felt the hard training that all artists had gone through, and was very touched by the excellence of the performance.

“This is not only a respectable art, this is also a fabulous show in which each artist presented perfectly what he or she should do,” he said.
