KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan—Taiwanese theatergoers praised Shen Yun as the best in art, and for bringing hope and peace to the world, after attending Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Chih-The Hall of the Kaohsiung Cultural Center on Feb. 28.

“From the first second to the last moment, my heart was filled with excitement,” said Mr. Chen Kuo-wen, the president of the EMBA Alumni Association at the College of Management of the National Chiayi University. “It’s unbelievable. I felt I was in heaven. I couldn’t find the right words to describe my excitement.”

Mr. Chen said Shen Yun was comprised of extraordinary dances, music, and backdrop, but more amazing was the “overall presentation.”
“The patented backdrop and the fabulous dances are the best artistic products in the world,” he said. “Each program, each artist, each soloist, and the live orchestra are all amazing. I can say that Shen Yun is from heaven. Everybody should attend at least once in their life. You will feel it’s astounding!  This is the reason why I attend every year.”

Mr. Chen said he had attended Shen Yun five times and would attend continually in the future.

“My soul and mind are as pure as a new-born baby after attending Shen Yun. All odd thoughts were gone,” he said. “I feel that Shen Yun improved my energy.”

He wanted to convey his appreciation for Shen Yun’s artistic director and all staff members for creating the great designs and production. “Shen Yun is amazing. I’m sure people all around the world love Shen Yun,” he added.

New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s top classical Chinese dance company, and has a mission to show the beauty and goodness of “China before communism.” For 5,000 years China’s civilization was built on values and virtues from the spiritual teachings of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism.

Innovative Color Schemes

Ms. Wang Mei-man is the general manager of Yu-ke Interior Designing Company. As a designer, she is very sensitive to colors.
“The colors that Shen Yun uses are very beautiful and saturated. They are beyond my imagination,” she said. “It uses color combinations in a way that we normally don’t dare to think. For example, it uses warm colors to match cold colors. The results are fantastic.”
Ms. Wang said the memories of Shen Yun’s colors were stored in her heart, and would inspire her in future work. She also said Shen Yun artists have very high expressive skills that clearly presented Chinese history and culture.

“From the dancers’ facial expressions, eye contact, and movements, I easily understood everything. It’s very touching,” she said.

Ms. Wang said she felt strong energy from Shen Yun and she was uplifted.

“I feel the show made us full of energy, passion, and hope. This is really a show that brings feelings to us. My heart and soul were purified when I walked out of the theater. I’m ready for the future,” she said with a big smile.

Each Shen Yun performance consists of nearly 20 vignettes, presented through highly-expressive art forms such as classical Chinese dance, original orchestral music performed live, soloists who sing in the bel canto tradition, animated digital backdrops, and more.

‘Experience the Past, the Present, and the Future’

The name “Shen Yun” means the “beauty of divine beings dancing.” Every year, Shen Yun puts on an all-new production, including new choreography, music, costumes, and backdrop sets.

Mr. Tang Chun-chieh, the co-founder of the Pan Taiwan Scrivener Firm, said he was shocked by Shen Yun’s beauty and strong power.

“Shen Yun has a very strong power that can deeply move our hearts,” he said. “This is a very powerful and elegant performance.”

Mr. Tang didn’t know about Shen Yun until a friend recommended it to him this year. He said he was very glad to attend, and it gave him many different experiences.

Shen Yun took me from this world to several different worlds. I felt like I was in different times, in different countries, and experienced the past, the present, and the future in the show,” he said. “It might recall my dusty memories. I just felt so touched and had so many emotions.”

Mr. Tang said he didn’t think about anything during the show and just enjoyed every moment. After the show, he suddenly felt relieved and inspired.

“Shen Yun can bring peace and harmony to the world. It brings encouragement and happiness to people,” he said.
